The Heritage Lines: Dedicated to the purist. These lineages preserve the iconic silhouettes, historic features, and quintessential charm that first made the Maine Coon legendary.

coat patterns & color categories
Tabby Patterns
Classic Tabby: Features broad, swirling "bullseye" or marble-like patterns on the sides and a distinct butterfly shape across the shoulders.
Mackerel Tabby: Features narrow, vertical, parallel stripes running down the body that closely resemble a tiger or fish skeleton.
Spotted Tabby: Features stripes and swirls that break up into distinct circular or oval-shaped spots across the body.
Ticked Tabby: Features individual hair shafts banded with alternating light and dark colors (agouti), resulting in a speckled look with minimal body striping.
Torbie (Tortoiseshell Tabby): Features distinct patches of red or cream mottled throughout any of the core tabby patterns listed above, almost exclusively seen in female cats.
Non-Tabby & Solid Categories
Solid: Features a completely uniform, single color from the hair tip down to the skin, with no tabby markings. Accepted colors include black, blue (gray), red (ginger), cream, and pure white.
Tortoiseshell (Tortie): Features a mottled blending of black and red (or blue and cream in dilutes) without any tabby stripes. Like torbies, this is nearly always female.
Smoke: Features what looks like a solid-colored cat at rest, but parting the fur reveals a stark, pale silver-white undercoat near the skin.
Shaded / Chinchilla: Features a very bright, pale silver or golden undercoat where only the very tips of the hairs have darker pigmentation, giving a shimmering appearance.
Particolor & White Modifiers
Bi-Color: Features any solid, tabby, or smoke color combined with significant white patches, often presenting as "vans" (color restricted to head and tail) or "bicolors" (roughly half white).
Calico: Features distinct, solid patches of black and red on a predominantly white base coat.
With White: Any of the core patterns above can include the "with white" modifier, which adds white to the paws (mittens), chest (bib), or belly.
